Based on the latest data from the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII), this article will discuss monthly costs, user perceptions of mobile internet costs, and the data quotas consumed per month in Indonesia in 2024.
Monthly Costs for Mobile Internet
According to the collected data, the majority of mobile internet users in Indonesia prefer packages costing between Rp50,001 and Rp100,000 per month. In 2023, 42.95% of users chose this cost range, and this figure slightly increased to 45.01% in 2024. This indicates that this cost range remains the primary choice among users.
In 2024, 35.33% of users opted for packages costing between Rp10,001 and Rp50,000 per month, a slight decrease from 42.2% in 2023. Meanwhile, 16.43% of users chose packages costing between Rp100,001 and Rp250,000 per month in 2024, up from 11.87% in the previous year. Users selecting packages costing more than Rp250,000 per month remain low at around 1.61%.
User Perceptions of Mobile Internet Costs
User perceptions of current mobile internet costs vary widely. A majority, 58.81%, feel that mobile internet costs are getting more expensive. About 31.67% feel that the costs remain the same, while only 6.61% feel that costs are getting cheaper.
Data Quotas Consumed per Month
Mobile internet users in Indonesia exhibit different data consumption habits. In 2024, 10.75% of users consume less than 5GB per month. About 28.38% of users consume between 5-10GB, while 31.54% of users consume between 10-20GB per month. Users consuming more than 20GB per month make up 26.63%.
User Insights
Insights from user data indicate that 47.00% of respondents consider the ideal rate for a mobile internet connection to be between Rp10,001 and Rp50,000. About 39.89% choose the cost range of Rp50,001 to Rp100,000.
A total of 60.92% of respondents feel that mobile internet connection is fast but expensive. About 27.51% consider it free but limited, and 11.57% find it cheap but slow.
Challenges and Opportunities
Although these trends indicate progress, challenges remain. High infrastructure costs and geographical challenges in remote areas are major obstacles to expanding internet access. However, with government support and technological innovation, these challenges can be gradually overcome.
There are significant opportunities for internet service providers to expand their reach and improve service quality. With increasing demand for faster and more stable internet connections, providers can invest in new technology and expand their networks to reach more users.
Trends in mobile internet connectivity in Indonesia show significant progress in terms of monthly costs and data quotas consumed. Despite some challenges, opportunities for growth and service improvement are substantial.
