Jakarta, INTI - The organization of the 10th Asia Pacific Spectrum Management Conference 2024 serves as a momentum to improve radio frequency spectrum management in the Asia Pacific region.

Ismail, the Director-General of Resources and Devices for Post and Informatics at the Ministry of Communication and Information, stated that this event is expected to enhance the quality of telecommunication services in Indonesia through better frequency spectrum management.

"For us, what's important is how this frequency spectrum can support the improvement of service quality because we know that our country is somewhat lagging behind in service quality compared to other countries in the world, even in Southeast Asia," said Director-General Ismail after the Gala Dinner of the 10th Asia Pacific Spectrum Management Conference 2024 at Pullman Hotel, Central Jakarta, on Monday (22/04/2024).

Director-General Ismail revealed that radio frequency spectrum is a crucial resource for mobile operators to increase capacity and service quality. Therefore, adequate frequency spectrum availability is necessary for the provision of mobile broadband.

"We are advocating for that theme to be discussed so that new spectrums can be prepared for this mobile broadband," he said.

Denny Setiawan, the Director of Resource Planning at the Directorate-General of SDPPI, Ministry of Communication and Information, expressed his hope that through this conference, Indonesia can learn about various new telecommunication technologies and how to regulate them.

"There are technologies like direct satellite phones, for example. We also need to see whether it is a threat or an opportunity, how we perceive it competitively, and its benefits so that when the technology arrives, we are prepared," he explained.

Director Denny Setiawan urged all relevant parties in the telecommunications field to make the most of this conference because various experts in the global telecommunications field will attend and share their knowledge.

"We take advantage of the opportunity as the host, so we don't have to pay for experts; the experts are already coming here," he emphasized.

Sarwoto Atmosutarno, the Chairman of the Indonesian Telematics Society, hoped that the conference would support the acceleration of digital transformation in Indonesia.

"However, digital transformation will also depend heavily on the allocation and management of frequency spectrum," he said.

According to Sarwoto Atmosutarno, a world-class conference will be very beneficial for all stakeholders and will continue to drive the Telematics Industry ecosystem in Indonesia.

"To complete the implementation of 5G, non-geostationary satellites, and to anticipate the development of various emerging technologies in the future," he revealed.

This conference is part of 'The Global Spectrum Series,' a significant and important meeting for various telecommunications policy stakeholders from various segments, including industry, regulators, academics, and related organizations related to radio frequency spectrum management.

APSMC 2024 will be divided into 11 sessions discussing various issues and policies. One crucial topic for Indonesia is the strategy to bridge the digital divide gap.
