Jakarta, INTI. The geographical conditions pose unique challenges to the equitable development of telecommunications infrastructure. The Minister of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia, Budi Arie Setiadi, emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive approach to address these challenges. According to him, a more appropriate approach is to optimize technological convergence.

"Demographically and geographically, Indonesia is a unique country. So, a singular technological approach won't suffice; we need convergence. We continue to strive for that," he explained after inaugurating the 10th Asia Pacific Spectrum Management Conference (APSMC) 2024 in Central Jakarta, Tuesday (23/04/2024).

Minister Budi Arie explained that the technological convergence approach allows for the use of different communication technologies according to the geographical conditions in various regions of Indonesia.

"How convergence encompasses satellite technology, terrestrial WiFi technology. How to condition this, because the challenges range from Sabang to Merauke, from Miangas to Rote Island. Perhaps satellite is used in the East, while terrestrial and mobile are preferred here," he clarified.

Menkominfo is optimistic that the Government can achieve equitable telecommunications infrastructure development across all regions of Indonesia.

"Yes, indeed, Indonesia's geographical challenges are daunting. But we are optimistic that all Indonesian citizens must have access to internet connectivity. It is their right," he emphasized.

APSMC 2024 is part of 'The Global Spectrum Series,' serving as a global forum for various telecommunications policy stakeholders from various segments including industry, regulators, academia, and related organizations involved in radio frequency spectrum management.

During the event, Menkominfo Budi Arie Setiadi was accompanied by the Director-General of Resources and Information Technology Devices of the Ministry of Communication and Information Ismail, and the Director of Resource Arrangement of the Directorate General of SDPPI of the Ministry of Communication and Information Denny Setiawan.
