Jakarta, INTI - Nusantara Smart City, currently being developed in the new capital city of Indonesia (IKN), stands as a testament to the nation's commitment to creating a sustainable, efficient, and technologically advanced future city. By leveraging various innovative technologies, IKN aims to become a model for cities worldwide in applying technology to enhance residents' quality of life, strengthen the economy, improve energy efficiency, and ensure environmental sustainability.

The Concept of Nusantara Smart City Nusantara Smart City technology integrates various aspects of life, ranging from physical infrastructure, healthcare, the economy, social dynamics, to environmental management. Through the concept of a smart city, technology is effectively and efficiently applied to achieve economic prosperity, reduce carbon footprints, enhance public services, and ensure accessibility for all segments of society.

According to Adhiguna Mahendra, Head of the IKN Data Center, this technology does not only focus on developing digital infrastructure but also on creating an ecosystem that supports the city’s sustainability. The smart technologies implemented in IKN cover various domains, including government, transportation and mobility, living, natural resources and energy, industry and human resources, and built environment and infrastructure. This holistic approach ensures that every element of the city is interconnected, supporting a system that is efficient and sustainable.

Key Technologies and Supporting Components in the Development of Nusantara Smart City The smart city technologies in Nusantara are categorized into two main types: Core Technologies and Supporting Technologies. Core Technologies are foundational components essential for building a smart city, while Supporting Technologies enhance the functionality of these core technologies. The core technologies are applied to all city domains, whereas Supporting Technologies are focused on specific functional areas.

One of the critical core technologies is Telecommunication Networks. This infrastructure enables communication between various devices in the city, including smart sensors, autonomous vehicles, and city management systems. A strong and reliable telecommunication network ensures that smart city applications can operate seamlessly, increasing the city’s operational efficiency.

Infrastructure that Drives Efficiency and Sustainability Another key technology that plays a significant role is the Data Center and Cloud Computing systems. The data center functions to store and process vast amounts of data generated by the integrated systems and sensors across the city. These technologies allow for efficient management of urban services, such as integrated transportation systems, healthcare services, and environmental monitoring.

Prof. Mohammed Ali Berawi, Deputy for Green and Digital Transformation, highlights the importance of High-Performance Computing (HPC) in the development of IKN. HPC systems are used to process large datasets rapidly, which is crucial for complex data analysis in urban planning and resource management. When combined with Edge Computing, which enables data processing closer to the source, these technologies ensure that IKN operates with high speed and maximum efficiency.

Another crucial component is the Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC), which integrates security, transportation, and emergency services into a central management hub. With advanced technology, the ICCC optimizes decision-making processes in handling emergencies or disaster situations, ensuring the city operates smoothly and efficiently.

Promoting Sustainability through Green Technology Nusantara Smart City is also committed to integrating sustainability principles and energy efficiency into its technological framework. One of the key technologies supporting this is Smart Grids, which enable more efficient and environmentally friendly energy distribution. With this system, IKN can monitor and manage energy consumption in real-time, reduce energy waste, and optimize the use of renewable resources.

Tonny Agus Setiono, Director of Digital Ecosystem Development, asserts that these technologies will not only benefit the residents but will also open up significant opportunities for the industrial and digital economies. With the integrated and intelligent infrastructure in place, IKN will attract more investors and create new jobs in the technology and innovation sectors.

The Role of Government in Realizing the Smart City In addition to the technological infrastructure, the government plays a crucial role in ensuring the success of smart city implementation. Agus Gunawan, Director of Green Transformation, emphasizes that to achieve the vision of a sustainable and smart city, the government must provide supportive policies that foster technological innovation, as well as incentives for companies contributing to the development of green technologies and energy efficiency.

These technologies are expected to improve residents' quality of life by providing easy access to integrated city services. Thus, IKN will create a comfortable, secure, and environmentally friendly atmosphere for its inhabitants.

Nusantara Smart City technology is not just about the application of advanced technology, but also about creating a city that is sustainable and environmentally friendly. By implementing core technologies such as telecommunication networks, data centers, and HPC, as well as supporting green technologies, IKN can become a highly efficient, innovative city, ready to face future challenges. Through collaboration between the government, industry, and society, IKN can become a global model for creating a smart and sustainable urban environment.
