Denpasar, INTI – The Bali International Airshow (BIAS) 2024 has officially begun, and one of the main topics drawing attention is the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) as a solution for decarbonizing the aviation sector. At this event, hosted by the Indonesian government, a panel discussion titled "Global and Regional Collaboration Potential on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)" became the focus of participants and global stakeholders.

In the discussion, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, stated that Indonesia is aggressively developing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to support the transition towards low-carbon aviation. “With SAF, we can significantly reduce carbon emissions from the aviation sector. Indonesia is ready to become a production hub for SAF in the region,” Luhut said.

Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, now serving as Executive Chairman of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, highlighted that SAF is key to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. "International collaboration and private sector participation are crucial to realizing a cleaner future for aviation," Blair remarked.

At the same event, Salyadi Saputra, Director of Strategy, Portfolio, and Business Development at PT Pertamina (Persero), explained that Pertamina has taken various measures to develop sustainable feedstocks that can be used in SAF production. "We believe SAF will become the main pillar of a more environmentally friendly aviation industry," he stated.

From the airline industry’s perspective, Daniel Putut Kuncoro, CEO of Lion Air Group, emphasized the importance of SAF in creating a sustainable aviation industry. "Lion Air is committed to supporting the use of SAF to create a better environment for future generations," he affirmed.

Anand Stanley, President of Airbus Asia Pacific, was also present at the event and noted that Indonesia has a strategic role in supporting the aviation industry's transformation. "With the resources Indonesia has, the country can become a global leader in SAF adoption," he said.

The BIAS 2024 exhibition not only discussed SAF but also served as a platform for thousands of visitors from various countries to witness the latest innovations in aviation and defense technology. The event will continue until September 21, featuring impressive aerial displays and important panel discussions on the future of the aerospace industry.
