Jakarta, INTI - On Thursday, November 14, 2024, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto delivered a keynote speech at the APEC CEO Summit held at the National Grand Theater in Peru. In his address, President Prabowo emphasized the critical role of the business sector in fostering economic growth, creating jobs, and achieving sustainable global prosperity.

Acknowledgment and Appreciation for the Business Community

President Prabowo opened his speech by expressing gratitude for the invitation. He highlighted the indispensable contributions of the business community as the main drivers of global economic progress.

“Without active participation from the economic sector, we cannot achieve the growth and prosperity we aspire to,” President Prabowo stated before an audience of hundreds of business leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region.

He also underscored the role of the business community in reducing poverty through the creation of inclusive job opportunities, particularly in developing nations like Indonesia.

The Pacific Region as the Epicenter of Global Economic Dynamics

President Prabowo described the Pacific region as the world’s most dynamic area, endowed with immense potential in technology, demographics, and natural resources. However, he also acknowledged the challenges posed by increasing geopolitical tensions.

“In the midst of global conflicts, I am optimistic that leaders of the world’s major powers will ultimately choose the path of shared prosperity for global peace and stability,” he said.

Moreover, President Prabowo emphasized that rapid technological advancements must be matched with wise policies from world leaders. “Technology has enormous power to bring progress, but it can also pose significant threats if not utilized properly,” he added.

Indonesia’s Commitment to Green Energy and Energy Independence

One of the key points in President Prabowo’s speech was Indonesia’s commitment to achieving green energy independence. He highlighted Indonesia’s vast renewable energy potential, including its status as the world’s largest holder of geothermal reserves.

“We hold around 60% of the world’s geothermal energy potential. This is a resource we must harness to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy,” he explained.

He also outlined strategic steps taken by Indonesia to attract investments in green energy, including developing infrastructure to support a clean energy transition within the country.

Partnerships with Peru and Indonesia’s Economic Stability

Regarding bilateral relations, President Prabowo described Peru as a strategic partner for Indonesia in the Pacific region. He invited Peru to strengthen cooperation in trade, education, and culture, especially as the two nations prepare to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2025.

President Prabowo also highlighted Indonesia’s economic stability in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. With an inflation rate of just 2%, Indonesia has managed to sustain its economic growth, making it one of Asia’s top-performing economies.

“Indonesia continues to open its doors to foreign investors and remains committed to creating a conducive investment climate,” he emphasized.

Reforms in Education, Healthcare, and Maritime Industrialization

During his speech, President Prabowo discussed significant reforms in Indonesia’s education and healthcare sectors. The government has opened the door for foreign universities and hospitals to operate in Indonesia as part of efforts to enhance public services.

In the maritime sector, President Prabowo highlighted Indonesia’s vast potential, with 75% of its territory consisting of oceans. He stressed the importance of maximizing this potential through industrialization and the downstream processing of fisheries and aquaculture resources.

“We are determined to process our natural resources into high-value products. This is our concrete step towards industrialization,” said President Prabowo.

An Invitation to Investors and a Call for Global Peace

Concluding his speech, President Prabowo invited business leaders from the Pacific region to explore investment opportunities in Indonesia. He assured the protection of foreign investments and reaffirmed his commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment that supports growth.

“Indonesia is open for more business and investment. I am committed to providing favorable economic conditions to create shared prosperity,” President Prabowo concluded.

Additionally, the President emphasized that peace can only be achieved through understanding and active engagement between nations. He called on all parties to work together in building a better world through dialogue and collaboration.
