INTI,- Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has called on all nations to contribute according to their respective capacities in tackling the threat of climate change. The President made this statement during his speech at the Working Session of G7 Partners discussing climate, energy, and the environment at the Grand Prince Hotel Hiroshima on Saturday (20/05/2023).

"The old approach of burden shifting, propaganda must be abandoned. The Earth needs concrete action, not mere talk the talk," stated the President.

According to President Widodo, Indonesia has increased its emissions reduction target by 31.89 percent through its own efforts and 43.2 percent with international support. "It is a commitment that must be followed by empowering partnerships," he added.

Furthermore, the President emphasized that climate financing for developing countries should be constructive and free from discriminatory policies disguised as environmental initiatives. He mentioned that financing in the form of debt, for example, would only become a burden.

"I must express that developing countries have doubts about the financing commitments of developed countries, as the commitment of USD 100 billion per year has not been fulfilled to this day," he continued.

Moreover, President Jokowi urged all nations to enhance concrete actions in facing the threats of climate change. The Head of State also highlighted several tangible measures that Indonesia has taken to address these challenges.

"Indonesia has accomplished many things, such as significantly reducing deforestation rates to the lowest in the past 20 years, completing the rehabilitation of 600,000 hectares of mangrove forests by 2024, rehabilitating 3 million hectares of critical land, reducing forest fires by 88 percent, establishing 30,000 hectares of green industrial zones, and promoting the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem," stated the President.

President Joko Widodo's speech at the G7 Working Session received positive responses from international participants. They acknowledged Indonesia's commitment and efforts in addressing climate change issues and expressed their willingness to collaborate in finding sustainable solutions.

The discussions at the session also touched upon renewable energy, environmental conservation, and the importance of technology transfer to support developing countries' efforts in combating climate change.

President Jokowi concluded his speech by urging all nations to work together, overcome differences, and take concrete actions to preserve the planet for future generations. He emphasized the significance of international cooperation in achieving a sustainable and resilient global environment. ***. Hans
