Bali, INTI - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) warmly welcomed the arrival of delegation leaders attending the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF MSP) and the 2nd Joint Leaders Session of the Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF), held at the Mulia Hotel Nusa Dua, Bali, on September 2, 2024. The presence of these world leaders underscores the importance of this forum in fostering global collaboration amid the numerous challenges facing the world.
In the grand hotel lobby, President Jokowi shook hands and took photos with the seven delegation leaders present. In sequence, he welcomed President of Zanzibar Hussein Ali Mwinyi, Vice President of Zimbabwe Kembo Dugish Campbell Muleya Mohadi, Prime Minister of Timor Leste Xanana Gusmao, Prime Minister of Eswatini Russel Mmiso Dlamini, President of Liberia Joseph Nyuma Boakai, President of Rwanda Paul Kagame, and President of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo.
This moment of camaraderie highlights the strong spirit of friendship and cooperation among the nations represented. After the group photo, President Jokowi stood between the newly elected President of Indonesia for 2024-2029, Prabowo Subianto, and the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, symbolizing a harmonious transition of leadership in Indonesia.
With a warm smile, President Jokowi then led the delegation leaders in a walk to the Grand Ballroom to begin the crucial sessions of the HLF MSP and the 2nd Joint Leaders Session of the IAF 2024. In his opening remarks, President Jokowi expressed his gratitude for the commitment of the participants to attend this forum, despite the increasingly complex and challenging global landscape.
President Jokowi emphasized that the world is currently facing numerous significant challenges, including economic slowdown, rising unemployment, persistent inflation, and ongoing geopolitical tensions. "We all aim to create positive change in a world full of challenges, whether it be related to economic slowdown, high unemployment, persistent inflation, or ongoing geopolitical tensions that have caused many casualties and disrupted global supply chains," Jokowi stated firmly.
Furthermore, President Jokowi also highlighted the decline in international solidarity and the weakening of multilateralism, which he believes are exacerbating global fragmentation. He reminded the audience that developing countries are the most affected by this situation, with only 17 percent of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets achieved, as the 2030 deadline approaches.
President Jokowi stressed the need for new strategies and a new vision to achieve more equitable and inclusive development for developing countries. "Therefore, we need new direction and vision, we need new strategies, we need new tactical steps to realize more equitable and inclusive development for developing countries," he asserted.
