INTI,- President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, has called for collaboration between government and business to realize ASEAN as the epicenter of growth. He made the statement while leading a meeting between ASEAN Leaders and Representatives of ASEAN-Business Advisory Council (BAC) on Wednesday (10/05/2023) at Hotel Meruorah in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara.

"Let us work closely together to set a joint agenda to ensure that this region continues to be the epicenter of growth," said the President.

According to the President, collaboration, cooperation, and synergy between the government and business have enabled ASEAN to face the COVID-19 pandemic. The same collaboration and synergy, he added, are needed to face the still very heavy challenges, geopolitical risks, and the fall of financial institutions in the United States and Europe.

"In this situation, we must strengthen collaboration to maintain ASEAN as the epicenter of growth," he said.

The President also believes that ASEAN has great potential to become the center of economic growth.

"Our region's economic potential is immense, with growth above the world average, a demographic bonus, and a growing middle class that will reach 65 percent by 2030," he added.

Accompanying the President in the meeting were Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, and State Secretary Pratikno.

In addition to his call for collaboration, President Jokowi also emphasized the importance of building resilience against global economic shocks, geopolitical risks, and other challenges. The government is committed to working together with the private sector to strengthen the region's economic integration, increase inclusive cooperation, and create more jobs and opportunities.

The meeting also discussed how the ASEAN region can address the challenges of digital transformation, climate change, and sustainable development. The President emphasized the need for cooperation and innovation to harness the potential of digital technology and promote a green economy.

The meeting concluded with a commitment from both the government and business sectors to continue working together to achieve ASEAN's vision of becoming the epicenter of growth in the global economy. ***. Hans
