President Jokowi Meets Elon Musk at World Water Forum in Bali
Bali, INTI – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) met with Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, on the sidelines of the 10th World Water Forum held at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC) in Badung, Bali, on Monday, May 20, 2024. The discussions focused on accelerating Indonesia's digital transformation and exploring potential investment opportunities.
During the meeting, President Jokowi expressed his gratitude to Musk for participating as a speaker at the forum, emphasizing the importance of water management. He also invited Musk to expand his investments in Indonesia, covering companies such as SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, and Boring Company.
"Mr. Musk, Indonesia is currently accelerating its national digital transformation and opening up numerous investment opportunities in infrastructure, government technology, the digital economy, and digital society. Therefore, we appreciate and continue to encourage the development of investments by SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, and Boring Company in Indonesia," said President Jokowi.
Regarding the ongoing collaboration with Starlink, President Jokowi hopes that Starlink can synergize with Indonesian internet providers to offer affordable internet access, prioritize consumer protection, and provide lower prices for public services, including healthcare centers and remote schools in Indonesia.
Elon Musk responded by expressing his honor to participate in the forum and his pleasure at being in Bali. "We hope to provide Starlink connectivity to support educational and healthcare facilities in Indonesia," Musk said.
Musk's visit underscores the high interest of global investors in Indonesia's digital economy and the potential for future cooperation to support digital infrastructure across the country.
Accompanying President Jokowi at the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, State Secretary Pratikno, and Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board Bahlil Lahadalia.
