INTI,- President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, on Wednesday (10/05/2023) at Hotel Meruorah, Labuan Bajo, Manggarai Barat, East Nusa Tenggara. During the meeting, President Jokowi conveyed his welcome and congratulations to Hun Sen on Cambodia's chairmanship of ASEAN last year.
"President also expressed appreciation for Cambodia's support for Indonesia's chairmanship in ASEAN this year," said Foreign Minister (Menlu) Retno LP Marsudi in her press statement after the bilateral meeting.
In addition, the two leaders also discussed the enhancement of economic cooperation between the two countries. President Jokowi emphasized Indonesia's commitment to continually improve economic cooperation with Cambodia.
"This includes Indonesia's desire to participate in Cambodia's development, particularly in infrastructure projects," said Minister Retno.
President Jokowi also expressed his appreciation for Cambodia's assistance in rescuing Indonesian citizens who became victims of human trafficking and online scams.
"The President also expressed his gratitude for Cambodia's assistance when we had to rescue Indonesian citizens who were victims of human trafficking, especially for online scams," she said.
Meanwhile, PM Hun Sen apologized to the Indonesian government for the incident when the Indonesian flag was hung upside down during the prelude to the opening ceremony of the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.
"Prime Minister Hun Sen conveyed an apology to Indonesia for the incident of the upside-down Indonesian flag at the beginning of the SEA Games opening ceremony," she added.
