INTI,- President Joko Widodo held a meeting with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, at the Rihga Royal Hotel in Hiroshima, Japan, on Saturday, May 20, 2023. During the meeting, the IMF Managing Director assessed that Indonesia's economy is relatively strong and stable amidst the global economic situation facing significant uncertainties.
"Amidst the global economic situation marked by significant uncertainties, Indonesia's economy is relatively strong and stable, with economic growth far exceeding the global average," stated Kristalina.
Meanwhile, President Jokowi expressed that Indonesia's economy is projected to grow by 5.1 percent in 2023 and 5 percent in 2024. In light of this, the IMF hopes that Indonesia can contribute to assisting other developing countries.
"The IMF hopes for Indonesia's assistance to other developing countries, particularly in poverty alleviation efforts," said Kristalina.
The IMF Managing Director also acknowledged that Indonesia plays a crucial role amidst the current global challenges. Indonesia is seen as capable of establishing relationships and communicating with all parties.
"Indonesia can engage with all countries, all parties, and in a world facing multiple challenges like today, we need more roles like the one played by Indonesia," she emphasized.
In addition, President Jokowi welcomed the launch of the IMF's Global Policy Agenda and the establishment of an early warning system, which are considered important initiatives.
During the meeting, the IMF Managing Director also expressed appreciation for Indonesia's successful presidency of the G20 in 2022 and the successful hosting of the 42nd ASEAN Summit this year.
"Congratulations to Indonesia for the successful presidency of the G20 last year and for the hosting of the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo," stated Kristalina.
