INTI,- President Joko Widodo held a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, at the Grand Prince Hotel in Hiroshima, Japan, on Saturday, May 20, 2023. During the meeting, the President expressed appreciation for the realization of solar energy projects in Sumba and hydro energy projects in Lombok, Bali, and West Sumatra, as well as the UK grant of approximately USD 11 million for sustainable transportation in several Indonesian cities.
"I hope it can be expanded to other cities, including the Nusantara Capital," stated the President.
Furthermore, the President also expressed hope for the realization of the UK's commitments in the Just Energy Transition Partnership, the development of the EV ecosystem, including battery cell supplies and the establishment of EV micro-factories, as well as investments in the development of the Nusantara Capital, transportation, green energy, and education.
Regarding the bilateral trade cooperation between the two countries, the President emphasized the need to avoid discriminatory policies. The President also hoped that the "due diligence" policy for agricultural and forestry products would not discriminate against Indonesia's main commodities.
As for ASEAN, the President mentioned that during the recent 42nd ASEAN Summit, the leaders fully supported Indonesia's efforts to engage with all stakeholders. The President also appreciated Indonesia's efforts in facilitating the AHA Centre, which contributed to the completion of the Joint Needs Assessment.
"The 5PC will remain the primary reference for resolving the conflict in Myanmar, and the AHA Centre is working to channel humanitarian assistance. This requires international support, including from the UK," said the President.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Sunak congratulated President Jokowi multiple times for Indonesia's leadership in the G20. According to Prime Minister Sunak, Indonesia successfully carried out its G20 presidency.
