Jakarta, INTI - The presence of investors from the global technology industry brings significant opportunities for Indonesia to become a key player in global technology development.

Minister of Communication and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi stated that the presence of global technology companies investing in Indonesia is a step towards realizing Indonesia's position as a major player in the global digital technology development ecosystem.

"Our goal is to position Indonesia as one of the key players in the global digital technology development ecosystem," he explained during the Tech A Look Discussion on CNBC Indonesia TV held online from the Ministry of Communication and Informatics Office in Central Jakarta on Thursday (April 18, 2024).

Minister Budi Arie believes that Indonesia is a country with great potential to continue growing in the digital sector. According to him, the visit of Apple CEO Tim Cook shows that Apple sees Indonesia as a strategic country for the development of the technology industry and human resource potential.

"Apple views Indonesia as a country with great potential for continued growth," he emphasized.

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics highlights the presence of the Apple Developer Academy in four cities in Indonesia: Batam, Surabaya, South Tangerang, and Bali.

"This can also be seen from Apple's investment in the Apple Developer Academy, which shows that Apple values the Indonesian human resources as highly potential and creative for further development," he explained.

Minister Budi Arie ensures that the government is committed and always open to discussions with Apple and all multinational companies interested in investing in Indonesia.

"The Indonesian government is always open to further discussions to simplify, align, and accelerate various processes required by Apple as a multinational corporation to invest in Indonesia," he asserted.

Through this government support, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics hopes that more global technology companies will invest or build factories in Indonesia.

"The size of Apple's investment will certainly be adjusted to the needs and prospects of economic activities considered by Apple to be carried out in Indonesia. Of course, the amount of investment will be adjusted to the regulations," he explained.

Minister Budi Arie believes that there are many long-term benefits from technology giants operating in Indonesia. Moreover, he stated that digitalization in Indonesia will not lag behind advanced countries in the world.

"This digitalization signals that every country must prepare itself so as not to be left behind in global progress. We are well aware that technological advancements are truly limitless, including discussions about artificial intelligence development," he concluded.
