Jakarta, INTI - The Sekolah Tinggi Multi Media (STMM) "MMTC" Yogyakarta is set to transition into the Yogyakarta Digital Polytechnic. This change in name and status aligns with the regulations of the Directorate General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology regarding the transformation of vocational schools into polytechnics.
In line with this change in name and status, Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Nezar Patria emphasizes the importance of adopting a mindset to produce skilled digital talents.
"This is extremely important. We need to have a more adaptive, more agile mindset. It means that it's time for the Yogyakarta Digital Polytechnic to produce the digital talents needed by our digital society ecosystem in the future," he expressed during the Public Lecture on Digital Transformation towards Indonesia Emas at the STMM Yogyakarta campus on Tuesday (23/04/2024).
Wamen Nezar Patria sees the repositioning and reorientation of STMM Yogyakarta as a form of support in accelerating national digital transformation. Moreover, this momentum is part of the efforts to prepare Indonesia's digital talents.
"As one of the educational institutions under the Ministry of Communication and Information, this is one form of effort to strengthen the acceleration process of digital transformation in Indonesia in order to develop the capacity of young human resources. First, we re-conceptualize this STMM and also rearrange the strategy," he explained.
According to Wamenkominfo, Indonesia needs as many as 9 million digital talents. To achieve this target, the Government is striving to build and develop digital human resources.
"So, we have another 5 years until 2030. During that time, I believe the skill set of our human resources, especially the adaptive and agile young generation, especially in digital technology as part of the digital transformation process, will be needed," he emphasized.
In the 1990s, STMM became one of the leading schools in producing talents for the Indonesian broadcasting world. Many STMM graduates work at national television stations. Even today, the educational infrastructure at STMM remains one of the best in Indonesia.
"So, let us be grateful that we have infrastructure that is still quite durable until today," said Wamen Nezar Patria.
To support the development of educational technology at STMM, Wamenkominfo has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the Government of Japan.
"It's not just an MoU. If it's an MoC, it includes the items to be collaborated, what has been listed. One of them is cooperation in broadcasting, and I have included STMM to be able to receive further assistance in technology," he revealed.
Wamenkominfo Nezar Patria hopes that STMM students can prepare themselves by learning the latest communication technology. Additionally, Wamen Nezar Patria encourages students to study the development and changes in digital platforms and social media.
"All of you must learn it, must pursue its development, and make innovations that are quite important in the future, especially in creating the young generation of Indonesia in 2030-2045," he concluded.
