Jakarta, INTI - The Ministry of Industry continues to strive to enhance the competitiveness of domestic industries through the implementation of stricter and more structured National Standards of Indonesia (SNI). The application of these standards aims to provide quality assurance to consumers while ensuring that the products produced by national industries can compete in global markets. This effort is expected to strengthen Indonesia's position in international trade while maintaining the quality of domestic products.
"Currently, we have more than 5,300 National Standards of Indonesia (SNI) in the industrial sector, covering various industry sectors and types of products," said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in his virtual speech on Monday (October 14). He emphasized the importance of product standardization so that Indonesian industries can be more competitive in the global market.
Of the 5,300 existing standards, 130 National Standards of Indonesia have been made mandatory by the Ministry of Industry. These standards are primarily applied to products that have a significant impact on safety, security, health, and the environment. With this standardization, consumers can feel more secure and confident in the quality of the products they use daily.
Launch of 16 Ministerial Regulations to Support Standardization
On this occasion, the Minister of Industry launched 16 Ministerial Regulations of the Ministry of Industry (Permenperin), which regulate the mandatory implementation of industrial standards. These regulations cover proper audit and testing processes to ensure that industrial products meet the set standards. "This is an important instrument in ensuring that the products produced by industries meet the established standards," said the Minister.
Additionally, the new regulations also govern the certification and approval for the use of the SNI mark, which is conducted through the National Industry Information System (SIINas). This system is designed to encourage transparency, efficiency, and compliance with applicable regulations, thereby strengthening the industrial ecosystem in Indonesia.
Conformity Assessment Bodies: Monitoring Product Quality
To support the implementation of these strict standards, the Ministry of Industry has appointed Conformity Assessment Bodies (LPK), consisting of 20 Product Certification Bodies (LSPro) and 28 testing laboratories. These bodies will be responsible for certifying and testing products circulating in the market, providing quality assurance to consumers.
The Head of the Industrial Standardization and Policy Agency (BSKJI), Andi Rizaldi, stated that up to this point, 44 drafts of Permenperin have been harmonized. Of these, 16 Permenperin have been issued, and 28 others are in the process of issuance. "All of these Permenperin refer to the regulations outlined in the Minister of Industry Regulation No. 45 of 2022," he added.
New Regulations for Imported Products
As part of the effort to improve the quality of industrial products, the new Permenperin also regulates several important aspects, including the obligation for foreign manufacturers to have official representatives in Indonesia. This is intended to facilitate monitoring of imported products before they circulate in the domestic market.
Additionally, imported products must first enter the official representative's warehouse, located in Indonesia. This regulation ensures that products entering Indonesia undergo strict supervision, ensuring that the products circulating in the market fully comply with the established standards.
Layered Certification Process
In the new regulations, the certification process for industrial products is divided into two stages. The first stage is SNI or Conformity Certification, conducted by a Product Certification Body appointed by the Ministry of Industry. The second stage is the approval for the use of the SNI/Conformity mark, implemented by the Ministry of Industry through SIINas.
The use of this digital system aims to make the process more efficient, transparent, and ensure that all products circulating in the market comply with the applicable regulations. According to Andi, these steps are expected to build a strong standardization ecosystem, drive innovation, and increase industrial competitiveness on the global stage.
Socialization to Stakeholders
In closing his statement, Andi emphasized that all newly issued regulations must be immediately implemented. The Ministry of Industry will carry out socialization to all related stakeholders to ensure a proper understanding of these new regulations.
