INTI,- The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is actively promoting the development of green industries to support the government's commitment in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. One of its initiatives is through breakthroughs in enhancing electricity usage efficiency in industries, utilizing Waste Heat Recovery Power Generation (WHRPG) technology.

"The Indonesian government is committed to reducing GHG emissions from the cement industry by 2.75 million tons CO2-eq through independent efforts or 3.25 million tons CO2-eq with international support by 2030," said Doddy Rahadi, Head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) at the Ministry of Industry, during the inauguration of the WHRPG project at PT. Conch South Kalimantan Cement (CSKC) plant in Tabalong Regency, South Kalimantan, on Tuesday (May 16th).

Doddy Rahadi expressed his appreciation to PT. CSKC for supporting the government's commitment to reducing GHG emissions by implementing an environmentally friendly WHRPG power plant with a capacity of 7 to 11 megawatts (MW), generated from the clinker production line in the plant with a capacity of 2 x 3,200 tons/day.

"The WHRPG project built by PT CSKC can convert waste gas into electricity, which is then reused for the cement plant's production needs," he said. This is in line with the government's efforts in developing a low-carbon and environmentally friendly green electricity system as part of the national commitment to combat global warming.

"Energy transition is a significant issue domestically and can provide new hope for a better environmental, social, and economic future as a result of the policy shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy," added Doddy.

At the same event, the Director of PT. CSKC, Wang Hongyu, stated that the company is committed to reducing carbon emissions in accordance with Law Number 71 of 2021 and Presidential Regulation Number 98 of 2021, which set targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Indonesia. "Therefore, we are implementing measures to reduce carbon emissions within the company, including the construction of WHRPG," he explained.

WHRPG is an environmentally friendly technology that utilizes waste heat from combustion or production processes to generate electricity. The development of WHRPG facilities is PT. CSKC's breakthrough in converting waste gas into electrical energy.

"Notably, this WHRPG power generation innovation can produce electricity while preserving the environment through the reduction of CO2 gas emissions, which is one of the renewable energy sources for electricity supply," stated Wang Hongyu.

According to him, the technical transformation project of the heat power generation at PT. CSKC utilizes low-temperature and low-pressure boiler waste heat, employing low-pressure turbine power generation technology.

Upon completion of the construction, the WHRPG unit is expected to save 50,000 tons of coal annually at the power plant, resulting in cost savings of Rp33 billion from coal purchases, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 108,000 tons. "By practicing green and low-carbon business development, it will enhance the efficiency of the existing processes at PT. CSKC," added Wang Hongyu. ***. Hans
