Jakarta, INTI - Every day, there are 2,200 cyber attacks globally. In 2024, the losses due to cyber attacks reached USD 9.5 trillion, and in 2025, it is projected to increase to USD 10.5 trillion.

Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi stated that throughout 2023, Indonesia experienced over 1 billion cyber attacks with significant losses.

"With the increasingly intensive use of digital technology, we are also faced with the challenge of cyber security implementation," he explained during the Inauguration of the Indosat-Mastercard Cybersecurity Centers of Excellence in Central Jakarta on Thursday (04/18/2024).

Therefore, Minister Budi encourages collaboration in developing cyber security governance, especially in the industrial sector.

"The need for cyber security is non-negotiable. A secure cyber space requires active contributions from various parties," he emphasized.

As one of the digital space regulators, the Ministry of Communication and Information continues to support the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) in implementing cyber security governance in Indonesia.

According to the Minister of Communication and Information, they will ensure that both public and private Electronic System Providers (PSE) register according to applicable requirements, including fulfilling commitments to maintain the cyber security of electronic systems.

"We also investigate criminal acts that violate the ITE Law provisions, such as unauthorized access to electronic systems, unauthorized sending of electronic information, and other criminal acts under the ITE Law," he said.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Communication and Information also takes action, such as access termination and content takedown, against content prohibited by regulations.

"This includes content that threatens cyber security as requested by BSSN," Minister Budi Arie said.

According to the Minister of Communication and Information, the existence of cyber security governance will provide legal certainty and protect the rights of the people. Moreover, governance is also needed to identify cyber threat risks.

"The development of cyber security threat forms accompanies the emergence of new technologies and the low understanding of users regarding the urgency of cyber security. Thus, the Government, along with stakeholders, can implement cyber threat mitigation strategies that benefit the public or national security threats," he explained.

The event was attended by President Director & CEO of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison Vikra Sinha, CEO of Mastercard Michael Miebach, and Vice Rector of Bandung Institute of Technology Gusti Ayu Putri Saptawati Soekidjo.
