Jakarta, INTI - Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Budi Arie Setiadi, warmly welcomes the interest of the Japanese Government in developing 5G Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) in Indonesia.

"We look forward to input, ideas, from the Japanese government, and what we should do," he said when receiving the Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, Masaki Yasushi, at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology Office, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (23/04/2024).

Minister Budi Arie revealed that the Indonesian Government is currently drafting a master plan for the development of 5G infrastructure. Therefore, the Government is open to input and suggestions from countries that have already implemented 5G technology.

"We are currently drafting a master plan for 5G development, so what input does Japan have for us, we welcome input or suggestions," he said.

Open RAN is a technology that enables the efficient development of mobile telecommunication networks in Indonesia. With the implementation of Open RAN, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology hopes that the cost of telecommunication services will be more efficient by increasing competition and reducing the monopoly of 5G device vendors.

Currently, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology is conducting a Feasibility Study on the Implementation of Open RAN within a period of one year, divided into 14 milestones. The study involves telecommunication service providers or mobile operators in a pilot project that will take place in two designated locations.

When receiving the Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, Masaki Yasushi, Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Budi Arie Setiadi, was accompanied by Special Staff to the Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Widodo Muktiyo, Dedy Permadi, and Sugiharto.
