Geneva, INTI – On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, Minister of Communication and Information Technology Budi Arie Setiadi attended the Ministrial Roundtable at the WSIS+20 Forum 2024. The event, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), took place at the Geneva International Conference Center (CICG).

The meeting, which started around 1:30 PM local time, addressed various issues including artificial intelligence (AI) and the advancement of digital technology. The Ministrial Roundtable gathered leaders of international organizations and about 35 ministers responsible for telecommunications and digital sectors from around the world. The session was led by ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin.

“Digital development in Indonesia is aimed at achieving inclusive, empowering, and sustainable connectivity to realize the Golden Indonesia Vision 2045,” stated Minister Budi Arie during the forum.

The roundtable discussions emphasized the importance of building digital development that is inclusive, human-centered, and oriented towards sustainable growth. The ministers also highlighted the need to pay special attention to the interests of the Global South, considering the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and equitable development for all.

Participants agreed on the necessity to address emerging issues such as artificial intelligence, cross-border data flows, talent development and digital literacy, combating disinformation, ensuring equitable connectivity, cybersecurity, and other priority concerns.

“Indonesia’s various digital transformation initiatives have been globally recognized, evidenced by the continuous awards Indonesia has received at the WSIS ITU forums in recent years,” Minister Budi Arie noted.

The WSIS 2024 Ministrial Roundtable concluded with a consensus on establishing telecommunications and digital infrastructure that adheres to principles of inclusivity, safety, and sustainability.
