Jakarta, INTI - The Ministry of Communication and Information invites collaboration between the national and global digital ecosystems in formulating regulations regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Minister Budi Arie Setiadi encourages intensified cooperation with the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI) to discuss the regulation of generative AI in Indonesia.

"Currently, Indonesia does not have a regulatory framework related to AI. Meanwhile, it's only limited to circulars and guidelines related to ethics. Therefore, we can collaborate to create a regulatory framework that meets the needs and developments of AI in the country," he expressed after the meeting with Tony Blair at the Ministry of Communication and Information office in Central Jakarta, Friday (19/04/2024).

Minister Budi Arie stated that the formulation of regulations regarding AI requires consideration of fundamental aspects to minimize the risks of technology use increasingly adopted by Indonesian citizens.

"We know that there are three important fundamentals about AI. First, it must be safe. Second, AI must be ethical, and finally, it must be trusted. These concerns certainly require adequate or comprehensive regulatory instruments to address the risks arising from AI," he explained.

In the meeting with Tony Blair, the Minister of Communication and Information requested input and support in formulating AI regulatory frameworks to be applicable in Indonesia according to the needs and development of AI technology.

"Tony Blair expressed that his side offers a kind of cooperation with Indonesia to exchange ideas and experiences in formulating this regulatory framework," he said.

In the meeting with the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Minister Budi Arie also discussed national digital transformation issues related to the development of the National Data Center, digital connectivity, and digital identity.

"So, this is a follow-up from our meeting with the Tony Blair Institute last year. Earlier, before meeting us, Tony Blair and his team first met with President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo and Minister of Defense Prabowo," he concluded.
