Jakarta, INTI - Microsoft and LinkedIn today released the global Work Trend Index 2024 report, focusing on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace. The findings reveal the percentage of knowledge workers in Indonesia using generative AI, and the percentage of leaders who believe that adopting AI is key to staying competitive. These results show a strong interest in Indonesia to leverage AI technology to create business impact and indicate the potential emergence of a new AI-driven employment culture.

Speed of AI Adoption in Indonesia

“We are currently in an AI transformation era that allows us to create and innovate much faster. Indonesia’s adaptability and growth in this era indicate that we are on the right track to realizing Indonesia’s digital economic opportunities and creating a more significant positive impact for the wider community. The key now lies in how we channel this enthusiasm into tangible business AI transformation by doing three things: identifying business problems and integrating AI into solutions, taking a top-down and bottom-up approach, and prioritizing AI skill training for every individual,” said Dharma Simorangkir, President Director of Microsoft Indonesia.

The report, titled "AI at work is here. Now comes the hard part.", was generated through a survey of 31,000 people in 31 countries, including Indonesia. The data is also supported by employment and recruitment trends on LinkedIn and trillions of productivity signals from Microsoft 365.

Copilot Innovation and AI Training

Microsoft announced new capabilities in Copilot for Microsoft 365, while LinkedIn released over 50 free learning courses for LinkedIn Premium members to enhance their professional skills in AI. “With the rapid evolution of the workforce ecosystem, leaders prioritizing flexibility and investing in developing an AI-ready workforce will gain a competitive edge,” said Rohit Kalsy, Indonesia Country Lead, LinkedIn.

Based on the Work Trend Index 2024 report, there are three main points regarding the impact of AI on jobs and the labor market in Indonesia:

  1. AI Adoption by Employees: As many as 92% of knowledge workers in Indonesia are already using generative AI at work, higher than the global average (75%) and Asia Pacific (83%). About 92% of leaders in Indonesia believe in the importance of AI adoption to maintain a competitive edge for their companies.
  2. AI Raising Standards and Career Opportunities: As many as 69% of leaders in Indonesia stated they would not hire someone without AI skills. There was a 142x increase in LinkedIn members adding AI skills to their profiles and a 160% increase in non-technical professionals using LinkedIn Learning courses to build their AI proficiency.
  3. Emergence of AI Power Users: This research maps four types of AI users — from skeptics who rarely use AI to power users who use it extensively. AI has become an integral part of power users' work routines: 93% of power users in Indonesia use it to start their workday, and 94% use it to prepare for the next day.

Commitment to Digital Transformation

In Indonesia, various organizations have integrated generative AI tools like Copilot for Microsoft 365 into their workflows to increase productivity. Indosat Ooredoo Hutchinson (Indosat or IOH) is one company that has adopted Copilot for Microsoft 365 to enhance its employees' productivity.

Microsoft also announced new innovations in Copilot for Microsoft 365 to help people create more with AI. New auto-complete features, rewrite features, and the new chat interface Catch Up are some of the innovations introduced to support users.

LinkedIn provides AI tools to help users stay ahead in their careers, including more than 22,000 courses on LinkedIn Learning to build proficiency in generative AI. These new courses are free and available to everyone until July 8, 2024.
