Jakarta, INTI - Meta, under the leadership of CEO Mark Zuckerberg, continues its relentless pursuit of AI innovation with the unveiling of its latest MTIA AI chips. These chips represent a significant step forward in Meta's long-term strategy to enhance its AI capabilities and reduce reliance on external hardware providers like Nvidia.

The new iteration of Meta's Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) chips promises substantial performance improvements over its predecessor, MTIA v1, released in 2023. Specifically designed for Meta's AI workloads, these custom-made chips are already making waves by powering the company's ranking and recommendation ad models.

Meta's investment in AI infrastructure underscores its commitment to delivering cutting-edge experiences across its products and services. The deployment of the latest MTIA chip in 16 data center regions has resulted in a remarkable 3x increase in overall performance compared to its predecessor.

In a recent blog post, Meta emphasized the pivotal role of MTIA in its long-term roadmap, emphasizing the importance of building the most powerful and efficient infrastructure possible for its unique AI workloads. The company is strategically designing its custom silicon to complement existing infrastructure while remaining adaptable to future advancements in hardware technology.

Meta's ambition to achieve artificial general intelligence (AGI) is driving its aggressive expansion of compute infrastructure. With plans to acquire approximately 350,000 H100 GPUs from Nvidia by the end of 2024, Meta is poised to have nearly 600,000 GPUs in total, including equivalents from other suppliers. This substantial investment reflects Meta's commitment to democratizing AI and making it widely accessible.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg envisions a future where AI is not only advanced but also responsibly open-sourced for the benefit of all. Meta's ongoing efforts to train its next-gen model, Llama 3, and bolster its compute infrastructure underscore its commitment to realizing this vision.

In summary, Meta's unveiling of its latest AI chip marks a significant milestone in its journey towards achieving AI excellence and advancing towards artificial general intelligence.
