Jakarta, INTI – At the 6th Indonesia Internet Expo & Summit (IIXS), one of the most anticipated panel sessions is "The Role of Satellite Technology and Implementation of 5G/6G for Improving Connectivity." This event will be a significant part of the Indonesia Technology and Innovation (INTI 2024) exhibition, which will be held at JI-EXPO Kemayoran, Jakarta, from August 12-14, 2024.

Esteemed Panelists

This panel session will feature prominent figures in the field of technology and communication, including:

  • Merza Fachys: Vice Chairman of the Association of Telecommunications Service Providers of Indonesia (ATSI)
  • Anggoro K. Widjawan: Chairman of the Indonesian Satellite Association (ASSI)

Satellite Technology and Connectivity

Satellite technology plays a crucial role in bridging the digital divide in Indonesia, especially in remote areas that are difficult to reach with cable infrastructure. According to the latest data from the Telecommunication and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI), around 12,000 villages in Indonesia still lack internet access. Satellite technology is a strategic solution to provide widespread and reliable internet access.

5G/6G Implementation

This session will also discuss the implementation of 5G and 6G technologies, which can significantly enhance the speed and quality of internet connectivity in Indonesia. According to the latest Ericsson Mobility Report, Indonesia is projected to have 40 million 5G subscribers by 2025. Although still in its early stages, 6G technology will be an exciting topic covered by the experts.

Strategies for Future Connectivity

Several strategies to be discussed in this session include:

  1. Satellite Infrastructure Development: Increasing the number of launched satellites and enhancing satellite capacity to provide wider and higher-quality internet services.
  2. Investment in 5G/6G Technology: Encouraging investment from both private and government sectors to accelerate the development of 5G infrastructure and prepare for 6G technology.
  3. Government and Private Sector Collaboration: Building strong partnerships between the government, internet service providers, and the technology industry to create an inclusive digital ecosystem.
  4. Improving Service Quality: Implementing high standards in internet service provision to ensure consistent and adequate quality for all users.

Addressing Connectivity Challenges

The main challenges in developing connectivity in Indonesia include difficult geographical terrain and high costs for infrastructure development. However, with technological innovation and strong cooperation among various stakeholders, these challenges can be overcome. Satellite technology and the implementation of 5G/6G will be key in addressing these obstacles.
