INTI, Jakarta - Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, recently met with Tesla and SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, in the United States. During the meeting, both parties agreed to collaborate on the development of affordable internet connectivity in the eastern part of Indonesia. Luhut announced this partnership through his personal Instagram account (August 14, 2023).
Luhut stated that Elon Musk expressed interest in using his Starlink satellites to provide internet services in remote areas of Indonesia. According to Luhut, the benefits of this collaboration are substantial, particularly in enhancing access to education and healthcare in the eastern regions of Indonesia.
"Healthcare infrastructure, such as internet access in remote healthcare centers (puskesmas), can assist healthcare professionals in reporting real-time healthcare data," said Luhut. "Furthermore, educational services will become accessible to students in the eastern part of Indonesia, allowing us to achieve equitable and widespread access to education."
To further discuss this cooperation plan, Luhut extended an invitation to Elon Musk to visit Indonesia, an offer that Elon Musk accepted.
