Jakarta, INTI – The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) has reinforced its collaboration with the UK’s Chevening Scholarship Program to expand opportunities for Indonesian digital talent. Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics, Nezar Patria, expressed his appreciation for the program, which aims to cultivate more future leaders for Indonesia.
"This partnership provides an opportunity for participants to enrich their knowledge, skills, and networks, which can lead to positive changes in the future," stated Nezar Patria during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Kominfo-Chevening Scholarship at the British Embassy in South Jakarta on Thursday, May 30, 2024.
Deputy Minister Nezar Patria praised the collaboration for its role in empowering competent and innovative human resources. He emphasized that scholarships are crucial in developing top digital talent and achieving the Vision of Digital Indonesia 2045.
"I extend my gratitude to the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the British Embassy in Jakarta, and all parties involved for their support in developing Indonesia's top digital talents," he expressed.
Moreover, Nezar Patria hopes that the MoU signing will strengthen collaboration between the Indonesian and UK governments.
"Today's MoU is just the beginning, and we must enhance it further. At Kominfo, we plan to expand the scope of study areas and increase the number of participants in collaboration with Chevening year by year," he noted.
Dominic Jermey, the British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste, highlighted the shared interest of both countries in developing high-quality human resources, particularly in information and communication technology (ICT).
"We warmly welcome this excellent collaboration with Kominfo. The academic skills and connections of the scholarship recipients offer significant opportunities for them to become pioneers in their respective fields, whether in the digital economy, public policy, smart cities, or other digital innovations," he stated in a written message.
The MoU for the Kominfo-Chevening Scholarship was signed by Hary Budiarto, Head of the Human Resource Development Agency at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, and Samuel Hayes, Head of Economic and Digital at the British Embassy in Jakarta.
The partnership between Kominfo and the Chevening Scholarship Program will commence in the 2025-2026 academic year and will last for three years.
