Jakarta, INTI - In a powerful move to safeguard Indonesia's digital landscape, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) has unleashed a relentless crackdown on online gambling activities. On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, during the Indonesia Internet Expo and Summit (IIXS) at INTI 2024, Usman Kansong, Director General of Public Information and Communication, proudly presented the staggering achievements of the ministry in the past nine months.

As of July 16, 2023, to April 16, 2024, Kominfo has successfully blocked a jaw-dropping 785,825 online gambling contents, which is almost double the amount blocked from 2017 to mid-2023. This massive effort is part of a broader strategy to combat illegal online activities and protect Indonesia's digital ecosystem from the harmful impacts of online gambling.

The data clearly shows a significant spike in online gambling content in the past year. From July 17, 2023, to December 31, 2023, Kominfo blocked a total of 811,125 online gambling sites. Despite these efforts, the fight is far from over, as the ministry continues to face challenges in curbing the rapid proliferation of illegal gambling activities online.

Kominfo’s commitment to this cause is unwavering, as evidenced by the consistent decrease in online gambling content from January to April 2024. The ministry has taken a multi-pronged approach, utilizing advanced technology and strengthening collaboration with law enforcement agencies to identify and block these harmful websites more efficiently.

This crackdown is not just about numbers; it is about protecting the nation’s youth and vulnerable populations from the dangers of online gambling. As the digital world continues to expand, Kominfo remains steadfast in its mission to create a safer online environment for all Indonesians.
