Jakarta, INTI - The government is striving to equalize digital connectivity in Indonesia by utilizing various latest technologies. One of the priorities is providing digital connectivity using Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology.
Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie, appreciates the support from the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI) in the trial that will take place in May 2024.
"In the context of Indonesia's diverse geographical conditions, we must choose suitable technology. Satellite technology could be a more economical solution," he expressed after the meeting with Tony Blair at the Ministry of Communication and Information office in Central Jakarta, Friday (19/04/2024).
Minister Budi Arie stated that TBI's support will facilitate the implementation of digital connectivity in the Nusantara Capital (IKN) and the development of IKN as a smart city.
"We welcome TBI's support in implementing the Starlink internet trial in IKN. TBI provides a number of devices that will be installed at various locations," he said.
Deputy Minister Nezar Partia added that TBI will conduct a study on data sovereignty and security related to the use of satellite technology.
"It's not just Starlink, actually. But more on connectivity. Starlink is just one example of connectivity that we discussed in terms of whether it is proven or not to address connectivity issues in remote, frontier, and outermost areas (3T)," he explained.
Previously, Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi, welcomed the Founder and Executive Chairman of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI).
