Jakarta, INTI - At the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) Ministerial Meeting (PTM IPEF), Indonesia, represented by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, played a key role in discussing future economic collaboration among Indo-Pacific nations. As the national coordinator for IPEF, Indonesia emphasized its strong commitment to creating a resilient domestic supply chain and supporting the region’s transition to a clean economy.
Minister Airlangga underscored the importance of Indonesia’s 20 Special Economic Zones (KEKs) as investment-friendly areas that are set to play a critical role in fostering economic growth across the Indo-Pacific region. He also spoke about Indonesia’s infrastructure developments aimed at achieving a green and resilient economy.
"Indonesia is dedicated to ensuring its industrial infrastructure is environmentally sustainable and resilient. We are eager to build strong economic ties with Indo-Pacific nations under the IPEF framework," said Minister Airlangga, speaking virtually from Jakarta on September 24.
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo highlighted the significant progress made by IPEF partners since their previous ministerial meeting in Singapore. Raimondo stressed that IPEF partners had taken concrete steps to establish a robust global supply chain, promote clean energy transition, and improve investment conditions in the Indo-Pacific region.
Looking forward to the adoption of three key pillars—Supply Chain, Clean Economy, and Fair Economy—Secretary Raimondo welcomed the upcoming official implementation of these agreements, which will begin on October 11-12, 2024. She expressed optimism that these pillars would unlock further opportunities for collaboration among IPEF members.
Minister Airlangga also shared Indonesia's potential in emerging technologies and sectors such as Carbon Capture Storage (CCS), Green Hydrogen, semiconductors, and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), which could contribute to sustainable growth in the region.
The IPEF members agreed to continue monitoring the progress of the Supply Chain Agreement, Clean Economy Agreement, and Fair Economy Agreement. The first IPEF Council and Joint Commission meetings are scheduled to take place soon to further solidify cooperation.
