Santa Clara, INTI – Intel Corporation, one of the world's leading technology companies, has announced the appointment of Dr. Naga Chandrasekaran as Chief Global Operations Officer, Executive Vice President, and General Manager of the Intel Foundry Manufacturing and Supply Chain organization. Dr. Chandrasekaran, who previously served as Senior Vice President for Technology Development at Micron, will join Intel's executive leadership team and report directly to CEO Pat Gelsinger.
This appointment comes as Keyvan Esfarjani decides to retire after nearly 30 years of service at Intel. Esfarjani is renowned for his contributions to establishing a strong foundation for Intel Foundry and his leadership in global supply chain resilience and manufacturing excellence. He will remain with Intel until the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition.
Dr. Chandrasekaran's Role at Intel
Starting on August 12, Dr. Chandrasekaran will take on significant responsibilities in managing Intel Foundry's global manufacturing operations, including Fab Sort Manufacturing, Assembly Test Manufacturing, strategic planning, corporate quality assurance, and supply chain.
"Naga is a highly accomplished executive with deep expertise in semiconductor manufacturing and technology development. His leadership will be an outstanding addition to our team," said Gelsinger. "As we continue to build a resilient global semiconductor supply chain and create the world's first system foundry for the AI era, Naga's leadership will help us accelerate our progress and capitalize on significant long-term growth opportunities in the future."
Dr. Chandrasekaran's Experience and Background
With over 20 years of experience at Micron, Dr. Chandrasekaran held various senior leadership roles. Most recently, he led Micron's global technology development and engineering efforts related to scaling current memory technologies, advanced packaging technologies, and emerging technology solutions. Previously, he served as Senior Vice President for Process R&D and Operations.
Dr. Chandrasekaran holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Madras; a master's and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Oklahoma State University; a master's degree in information and data science from the University of California, Berkeley; and an executive MBA from both the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA-Anderson School of Management) and the National University of Singapore.
The Role of Intel Foundry
The Intel Foundry business encompasses Intel's technology development, global manufacturing, customer foundry services, and ecosystem operations. It brings together all essential components needed by fabless customers to design and manufacture chips for the new era of AI-based computing.
Dr. Chandrasekaran will collaborate with other Intel Foundry leaders, including Dr. Ann Kelleher, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Foundry Technology Development; Kevin O'Buckley, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Foundry Services; and Lorenzo Flores, Chief Financial Officer of Intel Foundry. This team brings extensive foundry business and technical leadership experience that will help Intel achieve its goal of creating the first system foundry for the AI era.
Under new leadership, Intel Foundry is expected to further strengthen its position in the highly competitive global semiconductor industry. This move is also part of Intel's strategy to leverage significant opportunities in AI technology and expand its foundry business.
