Jakarta, INTI – In an effort to strengthen the national digital infrastructure, Indonesia will host the Indonesia Internet Expo & Summit (IIXS) on August 12, 2024, at Jakarta International Expo (JI-EXPO). One of the most anticipated moments of this event is the keynote speech by Zulfadly Syam, Secretary General of the Indonesian Internet Service Provider Association (APJII). He will present a crucial topic titled "Strategy for Developing Last Mile and Backbone Infrastructure for Equitable and High-Quality Connectivity."

Profile of Zulfadly Syam

Zulfadly Syam is a prominent figure in the field of technology and the internet in Indonesia. As Secretary General of APJII, he plays a vital role in developing and strengthening Indonesia's internet infrastructure. Under his leadership, APJII continues to push for improved quality and equitable access to the internet across all regions of Indonesia, including remote areas.

Infrastructure Development Strategy

In his keynote speech, Zulfadly Syam will outline strategies and necessary steps to develop last mile and backbone infrastructure in Indonesia. Last mile infrastructure connects end users to the main network, while backbone infrastructure is the main network that connects various local networks.

According to Zulfadly, "To achieve equitable and high-quality connectivity, we need to focus on balanced development of both types of infrastructure. Only then can we ensure that all Indonesians can enjoy the benefits of the digital era."

Key Focus Areas of the Keynote Speech

Zulfadly Syam will highlight several key focus areas in digital infrastructure development:

  1. Equitable Internet Access: Ensuring equitable internet access across Indonesia is a top priority. The latest data from APJII shows that in 2023, internet penetration in Indonesia reached 77.02%, but there is still an access gap in remote areas.
  2. Improving Connection Quality: Enhancing the quality of internet connections to meet the needs of society and industry. This involves increasing the capacity and reliability of the backbone network.
  3. Collaboration Between Public and Private Sectors: Encouraging collaboration between the government and private sector in infrastructure development. This is crucial to ensure that infrastructure development proceeds smoothly and effectively.
  4. Investment in the Latest Technology: Adopting the latest technologies to improve infrastructure efficiency and quality. This includes 5G technology and fiber optics, which can provide higher speed and stability.

Challenges and Opportunities in the Digital Era

In his speech, Zulfadly will also discuss the challenges Indonesia faces in developing digital infrastructure, such as high costs and geographical challenges. However, he will emphasize the significant opportunities, such as the increasing demand for high-quality internet services and government support for digital infrastructure development.

According to a report by We Are Social and Hootsuite, in early 2024, the number of internet users in Indonesia reached 205 million, a 7.5% increase compared to the previous year. This shows the tremendous potential for growth in Indonesia's digital economy.
