Jakarta, INTI – In a significant move to strengthen the global drone industry, Indonesia and South Korea have officially joined forces. The announcement was made at the Jakarta Talk Drone 2024, held at the Manhattan Hotel in South Jakarta. The event was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Indonesian Unmanned Systems and Technology Association (ASTTA), the Indonesian Drone Pilot Association (APDI), and Drone Show Korea (DSK).

This strategic collaboration signals a new chapter in the development of drone technology in both countries, aiming to showcase Indonesian innovations on the international stage and foster technological growth. The MoU was signed by ASTTA Vice Chairman Asha Wadya Saelan, APDI Chairman Dr. Akbar Marwan, and DSK General Manager Ms. Miyoung Ha.

A Gateway to Global Recognition

The agreement paves the way for Indonesian drone companies to participate in the prestigious Drone Show Korea, a leading exhibition in Asia. This exposure will allow Indonesian innovators and manufacturers to display their capabilities, attract international investors, and establish partnerships with global players.

According to the Indonesian Ministry of Industry, the domestic drone market is projected to reach IDR 15 trillion by 2025, with an annual growth rate of 20%. These figures underscore the immense potential of the sector. By collaborating with South Korea, known for its advanced drone technology, Indonesia is well-positioned to leverage knowledge sharing and elevate its technological capabilities.

Expanding Opportunities Across Sectors

Drones have become integral to various industries, from agriculture and logistics to media production and security. For example:

  • In agriculture, drones are used for land mapping, crop monitoring, and efficient pesticide application.
  • In logistics, they enable swift deliveries, especially in remote or hard-to-reach areas.
  • In security, drones provide real-time surveillance and disaster management support.

The partnership aims to address these growing applications by enhancing the skillsets of local drone operators and manufacturers. South Korea’s expertise in automation and artificial intelligence (AI) integration will serve as a cornerstone for Indonesia’s drone innovation.

Indonesia’s Role in the Global Drone Industry

This collaboration is part of a broader strategy to position Indonesia as a key player in the Southeast Asian drone market. Indonesian companies such as Garuda Robotics and PT Drone Nusantara are already making strides in research and development. The MoU strengthens their capacity to compete in global markets, opening doors to international contracts and collaborations.

The rise of drone usage has also triggered an increased demand for certified drone pilots. Industry analysts estimate that this demand will grow by 40% annually, further emphasizing the need for training programs and certifications. The Indonesian government and private sectors are now working together to establish professional standards and regulations to meet this demand.

Future Outlook

The Jakarta Talk Drone 2024 event has set the stage for long-term cooperation between Indonesia and Korea. Beyond technological advancements, the partnership is expected to drive economic growth and create new job opportunities in both countries. As the drone industry evolves, Indonesia’s involvement in international exhibitions like Drone Show Korea will enhance its reputation as a hub for drone innovation.
