Bandung, INTI - The Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) has received a major challenge from Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut B. Pandjaitan to transform itself into a leading research university in Indonesia. This challenge was conveyed by Menko Luhut during the inauguration of the China-Indonesia Joint Research Laboratory in the field of New Energy Technology and Metallurgical Engineering at ITB on Wednesday (28/08/2024).
ITB was chosen as the strategic location for the joint laboratory between Indonesia and China, involving Central South University (CSU) China and GEM Co., Ltd, a renewable energy company from China. This laboratory is expected to become a leading research center that can generate significant innovations for both countries.
“This collaboration is crucial, and I challenge ITB to take the lead in research on industry policy, particularly related to the more than 8.8 million items in the government’s e-catalog,” said Menko Luhut.
He stressed that the results of this research must be able to assist the government in determining industry policies that are relevant and necessary for national needs. Menko Luhut also set a deadline of two weeks for ITB to complete this study, with the results to be presented in Jakarta.
To support this research, Menko Luhut has coordinated with the Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Supratman Andi Agtas, who has stated the Ministry's readiness to accept the registration of these research results. Menko Luhut also added that ITB should be able to transform itself into a research center capable of making significant contributions to Indonesia.
“I believe ITB should be more than just an educational institution, but also a research center that can drive the nation forward,” emphasized Menko Luhut.
ITB Rector Reini Wirahadikusumah, in her remarks, expressed optimism that this partnership would open up many new opportunities for knowledge exchange and technological development. Reini also thanked everyone involved and expressed her commitment to making ITB a center of excellence, especially in West Java.
“We are very grateful for this trust, and we are ready to make ITB a center of excellence in research and technological development,” said Reini.
