Jakarta, INTI - As a vast archipelago, Indonesia faces significant challenges in achieving equitable digital connectivity across its regions. To address these challenges, the government continues to develop digital infrastructure by involving various sectors, including global technology companies. Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, underscored the importance of collaboration in digital infrastructure projects and emphasized a strong commitment to digital security.

During a visit to the Ministry of Communication and Digital on November 11, 2024, Nokia CEO Peka Laundmark met with Minister Meutya Hafid to discuss opportunities for collaboration in digital connectivity. According to Minister Meutya, private sector involvement is essential in developing digital infrastructure due to the project's scale. “The government cannot work alone. We need collaboration with various sectors to build digital infrastructure accessible to all Indonesian citizens,” she stated.

Leveraging Technology to Improve Accessibility and Connectivity

A key aspect of this partnership is implementing advanced technologies that can enhance digital accessibility and connectivity across Indonesia. Nokia, as a long-standing global technology company, has various technologies that can help strengthen Indonesia’s digital infrastructure.

Minister Meutya highlighted that the choice of technology must align with Indonesia's unique needs as a large country with a vast population and geographical expanse. The government hopes that Nokia can make a positive contribution to the development of the national digital infrastructure, including connectivity networks, 5G technology, and broadband network infrastructure.

Digital Security: The Government’s Top Priority

In addition to expanding connectivity, Minister Meutya emphasized that the government places great importance on security in collaboration with global technology companies. She explained that digital security is a top priority that every partner involved in Indonesia’s digital infrastructure development must consider.

“Digital security is the government’s primary concern. We want everything, from the construction of digital infrastructure to public use, to be protected,” said Minister Meutya. In this regard, Nokia is expected to adhere to the security standards set by the Indonesian government.

Support from Relevant Officials

The meeting included several key figures, such as Deputy Minister Nezar Patria, Director General of Resources for Postal and Informatics Devices Ismail, and Special Staff to the Minister, Aida Rezalina Azhar. From Nokia’s side, Peka Laundmark attended with his senior executive team, including SVP Sales Asia Pacific John Harington, SVP Mobile Asia Pacific Jae Won, and President Director of Nokia Indonesia Ozgur Erzincan.

This meeting reflects a shared commitment between both parties to achieve improved and inclusive digital connectivity for all Indonesians. This collaboration is expected to strengthen the digital infrastructure, create jobs, and support digital economic growth in Indonesia.
