Jakarta, INTI - In the bustling setting of the OECD Ministerial Meeting, Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, continues to engage in bilateral meetings. Amidst his busy schedule, Minister Airlangga met with the UK's Minister for European Affairs, Nusrat Ghani, at the OECD Headquarters in Paris on Friday (3/05).

Minister Ghani, a member of PM Rishi Sunak's cabinet, marks the fourth UK minister to be met by Minister Airlangga during his official visits to London and Paris. This underscores Indonesia's significance in the eyes of the UK and the mutual commitment of both nations to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in economic, investment, and trade sectors.

During the meeting, the UK expressed its support for Indonesia's accession process to the OECD. Minister Airlangga highlighted Indonesia's adoption of OECD standards across various sectors, including finance, as Indonesia is also a member of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

On bilateral issues, Minister Ghani invited Indonesia to participate in the automotive supply chain in the UK through collaboration in the extractive sector. The UK also looks forward to Indonesia's participation in the Wilton Park Conference on Critical Minerals scheduled for May 2024.

Conversely, Indonesia emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral trade between the two countries. In the agricultural sector, Minister Airlangga hoped that the UK would prioritize inclusive trading practices by adhering to existing global standards, such as RSPO for the palm oil sector. It was emphasized that palm oil is a strategic and vital sector for smallholder palm oil farmers, numbering around 2.6 million people in Indonesia. In this regard, Indonesia requested the UK to utilize the FACT Dialogue mechanism to reach agreements beneficial to palm oil farmers and producers in Indonesia.

Minister Airlangga was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Trade, the Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, and the Assistant Deputy for Economic Cooperation in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East during the meeting.
