Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia is on the brink of a "point of no return" toward becoming a high-income economy by 2034, as conveyed by Nezar Patria, Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics, in his keynote speech at the opening of the Indonesia Internet Expo and Summit (IIXS) as part of the Indonesia Technology and Innovation (INTI) 2024.
In his presentation, Nezar Patria outlined Indonesia's ambitious vision to become one of the top 101 global economies by 2045. He explained that Indonesia has enormous potential to triple its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth over the next two decades, driving the country towards high-income status. GDP growth is projected to reach USD 15,700 per capita by 2038, up from USD 4,700 in 2023, provided that digital transformation can be maximized.
However, Nezar also warned that to achieve this vision, Indonesia must immediately shift from the conventional growth model (business as usual) to a growth model driven by innovation and digitalization. Under the transformation scenario, Indonesia's economic growth could be accelerated up to twice the projected rate compared to relying solely on traditional models. This will give Indonesia the opportunity to close the economic gap with other countries and strengthen its global position.
Nezar emphasized that 2034 will be a critical year for Indonesia. By that year, the country must ensure that digital transformation has reached all layers of society. He stressed that the government must continue to support digital initiatives that can drive economic growth and increase national productivity. "2034 will be Indonesia's point of no return, and we must seize this momentum to move further towards the vision of a Golden Indonesia 2045," he asserted.
As concrete steps, Nezar suggested strengthening digital infrastructure, enhancing workforce skills through digital training, and creating policies that support technological innovation. All of this, he said, will be essential foundations for Indonesia to achieve its long-term vision.
In closing, Nezar called on all elements of the nation to synergize in realizing an inclusive and sustainable digital transformation, for a more advanced and prosperous Indonesia in the future.
