Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia is hosting the 10th Asia Pacific Spectrum Management Conference (APSMC) 2024, taking place over two days from April 23rd to 24th, 2024, in Central Jakarta. The event, attended by representatives from various countries and telecommunications companies, will discuss various issues related to frequency spectrum management in the Asia Pacific region.
Ismail, the Director-General of Resources and Devices for Post and Informatics at the Ministry of Communication and Information, stated that the conference would address various issues related to frequency spectrum, including mobile broadband, 5G, 6G, WiFi, satellite, and disaster issues.
"This conference will discuss crucial issues related to spectrum management, including its impact on mobile broadband such as 5G-6G, satellite issues, spectrum roadmap case studies from several countries, and challenges for future technology ecosystems," he explained after the Gala Dinner of the 10th Asia Pacific Spectrum Management Conference 2024 at Pullman Hotel, Central Jakarta, on Monday (22/04/2024).
According to Director-General Ismail, the organization of the Asia Pacific Spectrum Management Conference this year is also special because it is the first conference to follow up on the World Radiocommunication Conference 2023 held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, at the end of last year.
"This year is special for this conference because it follows the WRC Conference, which is the world's largest forum or conference to discuss frequency spectrum management," he said.
Adiwijaya, the Rector of Telkom University, stated that APSMC 2024 is attended by representatives from governments, industries, academia, and international communities who present their best ideas.
"It is very prestigious and rarely comes to Indonesia, especially after WRC-23 because everyone is waiting for changes and actions at the international level to implement the results of WRC-23," he emphasized.
The organization of APSMC 2024 is highly beneficial, especially for Indonesia, which is undergoing digital transformation outlined in the Vision of Digital Indonesia 2045. Therefore, according to the Rector of Telkom University, Indonesia must take on a role and benefit to realize the Vision of Digital Indonesia 2045.
"Indonesia must leverage this opportunity, and Telkom University is ready to be a bridge in this event and future events, especially with the formation of 29 Centers of Excellence (CoE) at Telkom University," he explained.
The conference, held in collaboration with the Global Forum along with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT), is attended by more than 230 participants, with 140 participants from abroad. At least 30 countries will be represented in this event.
"For Indonesia, this can help advance communication technology in Indonesia and mature the ICT roadmap in Indonesia," said Denny Setiawan, the Director of Resource Planning at the Directorate-General of SDPPI, Ministry of Communication and Information.
Director Denny Setiawan hopes that through this conference, Indonesia can learn about various new telecommunications technologies and how to regulate them.
"There are technologies like direct satellite phones, for example. We also need to see whether it is a threat or an opportunity, how we perceive it competitively, and its benefits so that when the technology arrives, we are prepared," he explained.
