Jakarta, INTI – The Government of Indonesia and the Government of the United Kingdom (UK) are set to enhance their cooperation in digitalization to develop technical capabilities in building e-Government or Digital Government.

Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics Nezar Patria stated that the UK has had successful experiences in implementing e-Government, known as gov.uk. This includes the application of new technologies to provide services to the public through a digital government platform.

"Indonesia needs to learn from these successes, so that we don't have to repeat or experience the same failures. And this is a continuous process that needs to be updated, a process that never stops," he explained after meeting with UK Minister of State for Indo-Pacific Anne Marie Belinda Trevelyan at the Kominfo Ministry Office, Central Jakarta, Thursday (29/02/2024).

Deputy Minister Nezar Patria explained that the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has two tasks related to the implementation of digital government, namely building infrastructure and carrying out integration and consultation for interoperability of applications used by ministries, institutions, and local governments.

"In this context, Indonesia needs technical assistance supervision from countries that have successfully implemented e-Government. One of them is the UK."

According to the Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics, Indonesia has also collaborated with various parties, including universities from abroad, to develop technical capabilities in building digital government.

"We also cooperate with the Tony Blair Institute to collaborate on technical assistance. So there is cooperation with universities and later there will be cooperation in technical assistance to improve our ability to build e-Government in Indonesia," he explained.

In the meeting, Deputy Minister Nezar Patria revealed an invitation from UK Minister of State for Indo-Pacific Anne Marie Belinda Trevelyan to the Government of Indonesia to attend a meeting to discuss digitalization in the UK in June.

"We also agreed to increase cooperation, especially in strengthening telecommunications infrastructure in Indonesia. And also to build a number of cooperations related to education, especially for capacity building," he said.

In the meeting, Deputy Minister Nezar Patria was accompanied by Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics Mira Tayyiba, Director General of Informatics Applications of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics Semuel A. Pangerapan, and Special Staff to the Minister of Communication and Informatics Dedy Permadi. The British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste, Dominic Jermey, also accompanied UK Minister of State for Indo-Pacific Anne Marie Belinda Trevelyan.*Hans
