Washington, INTI - IBM (NYSE: IBM) has recently announced that it has secured a five-year contract with initial funding of $26 million from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to support the Cybersecurity Protection and Response (CPR) program. This program aims to expand and enhance cybersecurity response support for host governments in Europe and Eurasia (E&E). IBM's multidisciplinary team will provide ongoing assistance to help USAID strengthen the capabilities of host government agencies and critical infrastructure operators to identify, protect, detect, respond to, and recover from cyberattacks.
In an era where the rapid development and adoption of technology occur at a dizzying pace, new challenges emerge in the form of cyber threats. Infrastructure built without adequate security considerations can lead to significant difficulties for governments and critical infrastructure operators in combating cyber threats. Through program management related to cybersecurity, incident response, capacity development, and other services, IBM is committed to supporting USAID in building a secure, interoperable, and resilient digital ecosystem in the E&E region.
Ambassador Erin E. McKee, Assistant Administrator of the Bureau for Europe and Eurasia at USAID, stated, "USAID is working towards a future where digital technology drives inclusive growth, builds resilient and democratic societies, and empowers everyone, including the most vulnerable and marginalized. By partnering with IBM and leveraging the company's global experience and leadership in cybersecurity services, we are one step closer to achieving our strategic goal of enhancing development and humanitarian assistance outcomes through the use of digital technology and strengthening an open, secure, and inclusive digital ecosystem."
IBM operates one of the world's largest security research, development, and delivery organizations, monitoring over 150 billion security events daily across more than 130 countries. Alice Fakir, Partner and Lead of Cybersecurity Services for the U.S. Federal Market at IBM Consulting, added, "For USAID host countries to benefit from IT modernization efforts, they must incorporate cyber threat mitigation and capacity development into their program design and implementation. Cybersecurity is now officially a global development challenge, and IBM is proud to partner with USAID to support the integration of cybersecurity across host countries' civilian IT infrastructure."
IBM will leverage its global experience to develop strategies that can be effectively implemented in the target countries. This program is expected to significantly enhance the cybersecurity capabilities of governments and organizations in the Europe and Eurasia region.
