Jakarta, INTI - In a bid to expand its digital footprint, Huawei Cloud, the cloud division of technology giant Huawei, is ramping up its investment in the Middle East and Central Asia. After over two decades of operations, Huawei Cloud is committed to advancing artificial intelligence (AI) technology and developing a digital ecosystem to support growth across various industries. The company’s ‘Everything as a Service’ strategy focuses on delivering reliable and secure cloud infrastructure.
At the region's largest tech event, GITEX Global 2024 in Dubai, Roy Luo, Head of Huawei Cloud Solution and Marketing for the Middle East and Central Asia, detailed the company's expansion efforts. Huawei has built four cloud regions across the Middle East and Africa, including a tier-three data center in Saudi Arabia, which provides 20-millisecond latency for domestic data traffic and 100-millisecond latency across the broader Middle East. This infrastructure enables efficient use of cloud-based applications, especially for public services, energy, and commerce.
Government and Digital Transformation
Governments in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia with its Vision 2030, are driving digital transformation. Government-led programs emphasizing cloud technology have accelerated digitalization across various sectors, from public services to housing and energy. In Uzbekistan, Huawei has implemented a cloud-based e-government system serving more than 37 million citizens with over 400 accessible digital public services.
Huawei Cloud also offers low-latency solutions essential for live e-commerce and rapid-response public services, such as healthcare and transportation. By establishing a comprehensive cloud infrastructure, Huawei is supporting innovations like smart city development and integrated data management.
AI Technology and Ecosystem Development
Huawei Cloud is strengthening its AI strategy through five foundational models, including natural language processing, image recognition, and multimodal content generation. Through its Beta Studio platform, users can create digital avatars simply by uploading videos or photos. These avatars, powered by Huawei’s Pangu AI, can communicate in multiple languages, such as Arabic, Spanish, and English.
Huawei’s Go Cloud and Grow Cloud programs aim to develop the local ecosystem. By partnering with local software providers and system integrators, Huawei is committed to delivering industry-based solutions tailored to customer needs in the region. Over the past three years, Huawei has collaborated with over 400 partners in solutions and sales across the Middle East and Central Asia.
In a major talent initiative, Huawei has set a goal to train 500,000 developers in the next five years, partnering with more than 1,000 solution providers. This demonstrates Huawei’s commitment to supporting digital transformation in the region and preparing the workforce for the future.
