Jakarta, INTI - The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo), is continually striving to equalize internet access by building digital infrastructure that spans the entire archipelago. This initiative not only aims to bridge the digital divide but also opens equal opportunities for all Indonesians to participate in digital transformation.
In his keynote speech at the Datacomm Solution Day 2024 event in Jakarta, Minister of Communication and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi emphasized that equal internet access is a foundational pillar for creating an inclusive digital transformation. "We must remember the importance of creating equal opportunities in development, especially in achieving an inclusive and empowering digital transformation," he said.
The construction of Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) in remote areas and the expansion of the Palapa Ring fiber optic network are part of the government's strategy to ensure that every corner of Indonesia is connected to the digital world. Additionally, the launch of the SATRIA-1 multifunctional satellite is a crucial step in providing reliable internet connections in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost regions (3T).
Digital Literacy Training: A Key to Bridging the Digital Divide
In addition to building infrastructure, Kominfo acknowledges the importance of enhancing public capacity in utilizing digital technology. Through various training programs and digital literacy initiatives, the government aims to improve the quality of human resources in the digital era.
"The solution lies in upskilling and reskilling, improving digital literacy among the public through training and investment in the education sector," said the Minister. One of the government's flagship programs is the National Digital Literacy Movement, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of digital technology in daily life.
Additionally, the Digital Talent Scholarship (DTS) program offers training in strategic fields such as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. This program is designed to produce digital talents ready to compete in the global technology industry. At a more advanced level, the Digital Leadership Academy provides training for leaders in both the private and public sectors, aiming to strengthen their leadership skills in this digital age.
Internet Penetration in Indonesia: Challenges and Opportunities
In Indonesia, the internet penetration rate has now reached 79.5% of the national population. The 4G network covers 97.42% of residential areas, while 5G connectivity is still in its infancy, with coverage of only 3.53% of residential areas. Nevertheless, the government continues to push for infrastructure development to support the acceleration of this technology.
During the Datacomm Solution Day 2024 event, Minister Budi Arie was accompanied by key figures such as Aris Kurniawan, Director of Government Informatics Application Services, and Tan Wie Tjin, President Director of Datacomm Diangraha. The presence of technology experts and industry leaders demonstrates the importance of collaboration in achieving common goals.
Through these efforts, the government aims to create an inclusive digital ecosystem, providing equal opportunities for all Indonesians to thrive in this digital era.
