Jakarta, INTI – Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Technology Nezar Patria stated that the government is currently focusing on restoring government services in the Interim National Data Center (PDNS) 2, which was affected by a cyber attack. According to him, the recovery will be carried out as quickly as possible to ensure public services can return to normal operations.
“As quickly as possible, some services have already been restored, such as immigration. We are continuously working now to address this, especially to ensure public services can run as usual as we hope. We ask for everyone’s support and prayers,” explained Nezar Patria after a press conference on the Interim National Data Center update at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology Office, Central Jakarta, on Monday (24/06/2024).
The Deputy Minister emphasized that immigration services are among the government services that have been restored and are available for public use again. Meanwhile, other affected services are still in the recovery process.
“We are restoring the main services first, and we are continuing to work on the others,” he added.
Nezar Patria also stated that PDNS 2 has a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) facility, which aids in the recovery efforts of affected services.
Restored Services
Previously, the Director General of Informatics Applications at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, mentioned that aside from immigration services, several other services have been restored, including:
According to Director General Semuel, the speed of the service recovery process depends on the coordination between the application owners and PDNS providers, as well as the time required for data migration to the new servers.
“The speed should be accelerated with better coordination between the tenants and their cloud service providers,” he stated.
Isolation and Investigation Efforts
The Director General of Informatics Applications at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology explained that the team has undertaken efforts to isolate the affected systems to prevent the malware from spreading to other systems. The investigation and forensic analysis of the affected systems are ongoing, and the public is asked to be patient while waiting for the investigation results.
“This issue is still under investigation and digital forensics, so please be patient,” he added.
Director General Semuel also mentioned that this ransomware cyber attack is a new variant, requiring time to study the attack patterns and determine the appropriate response.
“This is a new variant, and we are coordinating with various organizations, both domestic and international, regarding this ransomware attack,” he concluded.
