Jakarta, INTI - The Minister of Communication and Information received a visit from Papua New Guinea's Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Timothy Masiu. During the meeting, Minister Budi Arie explored opportunities for ICT sector cooperation between the two countries.
"I am hopeful that this meeting will facilitate beneficial exchanges of views for better understanding and provide collaborative benefits between our two countries," he expressed while welcoming the Papua New Guinea Delegation at the Ministry of Communication and Information office in Central Jakarta on Thursday (25/04/2024).
According to the Minister of Communication and Information, ICT is a fundamental aspect that enables the development of all sectors in the digital era.
"The digital sector can contribute to over fifty percent of the global GDP and experiences growth approximately 2.10 percent faster than non-digital sectors," he stated.
Minister Budi Arie also revealed that Indonesia's economic growth opportunities are projected to increase by 6.2 percent annually and contribute to 20.5 percent of Indonesia's GDP by 2045.
"These projections are made possible with efforts to accelerate digital transformation, driving economic growth," he elaborated.
The Minister of Communication and Information opened up opportunities for digital transformation collaboration to accelerate adaptation and achieve current welfare in the digital landscape.
"The efforts to bring digital transformation in each country to collaborate are highly feasible. And we open up the potential for collaboration on frequency spectrum, broadcasting, as well as digital economy to advance MSMEs and startups," he added.
Minister Budi Arie hopes that ICT sector collaboration between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea will soon materialize.
"To advance inclusivity and prosperity that are appropriate for our respective nations. We will explore collaboration opportunities in the future," he concluded.
During the meeting, Minister Budi Arie Setiadi was accompanied by Deputy Minister Nezar Patria, Secretary General Mira Tayyiba, and Director General of SDPPI Ismail. Meanwhile, Papua New Guinea's Minister of ICT was accompanied by the CEO of the National ICT Authority (NICTA) Kila Gulo Vui, Board Chairman of NICTA Noel Mobiha, Managing Director of the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) Kora Nou, and Deputy Secretary of the Department of ICT Flieri Shongol.
