Jakarta, INTI – The digital era enables a myriad of technological innovations to rapidly develop and transform the way people live. Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics (Wamenkominfo) Nezar Patria stated that the use of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), cyber security, and big data analytics is growing rapidly.

“As we all race to embrace the digital world in the 21st century, a century we cannot turn back. You are the generation of the 21st century,” he said in his Keynote Speech at the opening of the 2024 New Student Campus Life Introduction (PKKMB) at the Multi Media College (STMM) Campus, Sleman, Yogyakarta, Thursday (07/11/2024).

Enhancing Creativity and Innovation in the Digital Space

Wamen Nezar Patria encouraged new STMM “MMTC” students to keep up with the developments in the digital space by enhancing their creativity and innovation.

“I am confident that everyone here is already familiar with the digital world, at least frequently using social media platforms to stay updated, observe the dynamics of discussions on social media. Use social media for creative purposes. If we look at Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok nowadays, there are so many contents made with great creativity,” he explained.

Moreover, Wamenkominfo urged new STMM Yogyakarta students to utilize various facilities and academic processes, expressing their creativity to the fullest to develop their digital skills and creativity.

“Participate in campus activities, especially to hone your skills. Don’t skip classes because it’s your loss, considering the tuition here is quite affordable. If compared to private schools with possibly high tuition fees for the same knowledge,” he revealed.

Welcoming the Digital Generation

Wamen Nezar Patria welcomed the new digital era generation who chose to pursue higher education at a campus under the Ministry of Communication and Informatics.

“I welcome you to the Multi Media College Yogyakarta. This is the school of the future; you will all fill a very strategic space in the future, namely the digital industry space,” he said.

According to Wamenkominfo, new students have chosen STMM as the right institution to master future digital technology.

“So once again, you have been selected to learn and master digital technology for the future, and make the most of this opportunity,” he emphasized.

A total of 465 students from six study programs participated in the PKKMB STMM 2024 activities, held from July 11 to 13, 2024. The event was attended by the Head of the Research and Development Agency for Human Resources (BPSDM) of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics Hary Budiarto, STMM Chairman Noor Iza, as well as the senate and academic community of STMM Yogyakarta.

Challenges and Opportunities in the Digital Era

Amid the rapid technological development, Indonesia also faces various challenges, such as the spread of misinformation and data privacy violations. Therefore, it is crucial for the younger generation not only to master technology but also to understand the ethics of its use.

Wamenkominfo Nezar Patria also reminded that wise and creative use of social media can bring significant benefits. "Social media can be used as a means to share useful information, develop professional networks, and create creative content that can have a positive impact on society," he said.
