Deputy Minister Nezar Patria and South Korean Ambassador Discuss AI Global Forum 2024

Jakarta, INTI - Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics Nezar Patria met with the South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia, Lee Sang-Deok. The meeting discussed plans for hosting the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Safety Summit 2024 and AI Global Forum 2024.

Deputy Minister Nezar Patria stated that Indonesia would send a delegation to the AI Safety Summit 2024 and AI Global Forum 2024, which will take place in Seoul, South Korea.

"We will attend the AI Summit 2024 to continue the discussions from the previous AI Summit in London last year," he explained during the meeting held at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology office in Central Jakarta, Friday (19/04/2024).

Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Technology elaborated that following the implementation of the AI Summit 2023, the Indonesian Government has engaged in extensive discussions with the Government of the United Kingdom regarding AI security and AI regulations, resulting in the issuance of the AI Ethics Guidelines in Indonesia.

"We hope these regulations can send a message to the world that Indonesia is committed and pays great attention to global AI ethics issues," he expressed.

Deputy Minister Nezar Patria explained that the AI Safety Summit and AI Global Forum would take place on May 21st to 22nd, 2024. He mentioned that Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Budi Arie Setiadi, would personally attend the Ministerial Meeting agenda.

"Minister of Communication and Information Technology and I will be present in Seoul, South Korea, to attend this event," he said.

The planned presence of the Indonesian delegation is part of the commitment to enhance digital cooperation, especially related to the formulation of Global AI Governance.

Previously, the Indonesian Government participated in the discussion of the Interim Report: Governing AI for Humanity published by the UN High-Level Advisory Body on AI. Meanwhile, at the ASEAN level, Indonesia also participated in the formulation of the ASEAN Guide on AI Governance and Ethics 2024, containing principles and proposed frameworks for non-binding AI Governance for ASEAN member states.

In the meeting with the South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia, Deputy Minister Nezar Patria was accompanied by the Director-General of Informatics Applications, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, and the Special Staff of the Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Dedy Permadi.
