Jakarta, INTI – In the face of increasing digital adoption, cybersecurity has emerged as a critical aspect of national digital transformation. Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Nezar Patria, emphasized the growing cyber risks alongside technological advancements. He called on all sectors to bolster their cybersecurity measures.

"It is essential for us to continuously enhance cybersecurity amidst the evolving digital transformation agenda," Nezar Patria stated during his Executive Keynote at Fortinet Accelerate Asia 2024, held at Fairmont Jakarta, on Thursday, May 30, 2024.

Nezar Patria outlined several strategies to strengthen cybersecurity. One key approach is to address security gaps within digital network environments and stay updated with technological advancements.

"This includes leveraging Generative AI to enhance security and operational resilience and continuously improving public awareness and skills to prevent cyberattacks," he added.

Citing the 2023 Allianz Commercial Survey, Nezar Patria highlighted that global cybersecurity risks surged from 40% in 2019 to over 77% in 2023. Additionally, according to the Google M-Trends 2024 data, the financial sector remains highly vulnerable to cyber threats.

"On the national landscape, our cybersecurity ecosystem still needs reinforcement. In 2023, Indonesia ranked 48th out of 176 countries on the cybersecurity index with a score of 63.64 out of 100. In Southeast Asia, Indonesia is ranked 5th out of 10 countries," he revealed.

The National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) reported Indonesia as a significant source and target of cybersecurity anomalies. These anomalies affect device and network performance, potentially leading to data theft and eroding trust and reputation.

"BSSN also detected 103 suspected data breaches throughout 2023, with the highest numbers in March (20 cases) and December (15 cases)," he noted.

Following his keynote address, Deputy Minister Nezar Patria and Fortinet Indonesia's Country Director Edwin Lim officially inaugurated Fortinet Accelerate Asia 2024: Indonesia Edition.
