Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia's creative industry continues to grow rapidly and has become one of the main drivers of national economic growth. The government recognizes that the young population with high creativity and innovation is the main backbone that needs support to not only become consumers of this industry but also as creators and drivers of innovation. In a stable economy with growth around 5% and controlled inflation, the government is committed to accelerating the development of the creative industry through various strategic policies.
At the International Creative Industry Conference and Festival on Creative Content 2024, held on Thursday (26/09), Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto asserted that the future of Indonesia's creative industry is very promising. He emphasized that with economic stability, a large and creative young population, and a rich cultural heritage, Indonesia has a strong foundation to become a global player in the creative industry.
Airlangga revealed that the target for the added value of the creative economy in 2024 is projected to reach IDR 1.347 trillion. Subsectors such as culinary, fashion, and handicrafts are the main pillars driving this growth. These sectors make significant contributions to national GDP and create more than 20 million jobs, strengthening Indonesia's position in the global export arena.
Moreover, Minister Airlangga highlighted that the global shift towards a digital and innovative era has opened significant opportunities for Indonesia, particularly in sectors such as film, music, animation, gaming, fashion, and digital arts. Cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), and blockchain have become essential tools that transform how creative content is produced, distributed, and consumed.
“These technologies bring us to a new era where creative content can be accessed more easily, produced faster, and distributed globally. Indonesia must seize this opportunity to lead in technology-based creative industries,” said Minister Airlangga.
Additionally, the cultural diversity of Indonesia is also a unique strength. The rich and diverse cultural heritage, when combined with modern technology, provides Indonesia with a significant opportunity to present itself on the international stage as a producer of high-quality creative products and services. Minister Airlangga emphasizes the importance of synergy between local creativity and global technology to produce creative works that can be accepted in global markets.
Furthermore, Minister Airlangga stated that to maximize the potential of the creative industry, strong collaboration between the government, private sector, and educational institutions is necessary. This collaboration is vital for building an ecosystem conducive to the growth of the creative industry in Indonesia. “With a robust ecosystem, we can not only promote economic development but also promote Indonesian culture on the international stage,” he explained.
According to Airlangga, connectivity between creative industry players, investors, policymakers, and academics must continue to be strengthened so that the creative industry can keep growing. “Through this collaboration, Indonesia can become a recognized global innovation hub,” he concluded.
