Jakarta, INTI – The escalating global climate crisis has compelled nations worldwide to take tangible actions in seeking sustainable solutions. In response to this challenge, the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) has taken a bold step by inaugurating the Asia Zero Emission Center, a collaborative initiative aimed at becoming a hub for innovation and knowledge in the transition towards a greener and more sustainable future.

The inauguration of this institution was held on the sidelines of the 2nd AZEC Ministerial Meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. During the event, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, emphasized that the establishment of the Asia Zero Emission Center is a result of the collaborative spirit among the countries participating in AZEC.

"The establishment of the Asia Zero Emission Center marks a significant milestone in our efforts to achieve a more sustainable future. The climate crisis is an urgent reality that demands swift and decisive action from all nations," said Minister Airlangga in his speech.

The Asia Zero Emission Center is designed to serve as a platform for exchanging information, policy assessments, and the development of projects related to energy transition. This institution will act as a bridge between governments, industries, and experts to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainability practices across various economic sectors.

According to Minister Airlangga, the center will not only focus on the development of renewable energy but will also assist AZEC member countries in crafting visions, roadmaps, and energy transition policies tailored to their specific needs. Furthermore, the center is expected to foster closer innovation and cooperation in the Asian region, enabling the achievement of ambitious zero-emission targets.

In his closing remarks, Minister Airlangga expressed his appreciation to all partners and stakeholders who contributed to the formation of the Asia Zero Emission Center. "Through the cooperation of all parties, we can achieve a sustainable and climate-resilient future for Asia and the world," concluded Minister Airlangga.

The event was also attended by various key figures, including Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry, Ken Saito; President of ERIA, Tetsuya Watanabe; and Japan's Minister of the Environment, Tetsuya Yagi. These leaders agreed that the Asia Zero Emission Center will be a crucial innovation hub in addressing the global climate challenge.
