Jakarta, INTI – The escalating climate crisis has become a major concern for countries around the world, demanding a tangible and collaborative response in finding sustainable solutions. A significant step taken by the international community is the establishment of the Asia Zero Emission Center, a joint initiative by the partner countries of the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC). This center was officially inaugurated during the 2nd AZEC Ministerial Meeting held in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, emphasized in his speech that the establishment of the Asia Zero Emission Center is the result of collaborative efforts among all AZEC member countries. He noted that this is a follow-up to the AZEC Leaders Joint Statement agreed upon in December 2023 in Tokyo, Japan.
"The establishment of the Asia Zero Emission Center marks a significant milestone as we collectively strive towards a more sustainable future. We recognize that climate change is an urgent reality that demands swift and decisive action from all countries," said Minister Airlangga.
The Asia Zero Emission Center will serve as a hub for information exchange, policy analysis, and the development of projects related to energy transition. The center is expected to be a connector between governments, industry leaders, and experts to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainability practices across various economic sectors.
Furthermore, Minister Airlangga added that the center will play a crucial role in promoting the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency throughout the Asian region. The center will also assist AZEC member countries in developing visions, roadmaps, and energy transition policies tailored to each country's needs.
Minister Airlangga stressed that the center will become a knowledge and innovation hub that can accelerate cooperation and innovation in Asia in achieving zero-emission targets. "Through the cooperation of all parties, a sustainable and climate-resilient future for Asia and the world will be attainable," he said.
On this occasion, Minister Airlangga also expressed his appreciation to all partners and stakeholders who have contributed to the establishment of the Asia Zero Emission Center. The success of this center heavily relies on the support and cooperation of all parties involved.
In his closing remarks, Minister Airlangga expressed hope that through this center, Asia can set an example for the world in collectively and innovatively addressing the climate challenge. The global climate crisis requires solutions that are not only rapid but also sustainable, and the Asia Zero Emission Center is ready to play a key role in realizing this goal.
