INTI,- The Association of Internet Service Providers in Indonesia (APJII) (15/5/2023) unveiled the updated data on internet user profiles in Indonesia at the Indonesia Internet Profile 2023 Launch event. The internet penetration rate in Indonesia reached 78.19% in 2022, showing a growth of 1.17% compared to 2021. However, this growth rate signifies a slowdown compared to the previous year, which saw a 3.32% increase.
Muhammad Arif, the Chairman of APJII, stated, "This slowdown indicates the need for us to strengthen efforts in expanding internet access, particularly in areas that are still underserved. Equal internet access is one of the key factors for Indonesia to become a major player in the digital economy."
Arif further added, "Therefore, synergy between the government, internet service providers, and the community is crucial. We call upon all stakeholders to collaborate in accelerating the expansion and improving the quality of internet access nationwide."
The updated internet user profile data provides valuable insights into the current state of internet usage in Indonesia. It highlights the progress made in increasing internet penetration, but also emphasizes the need to address the existing digital divide and ensure equitable access for all citizens.
Efforts to expand internet access have the potential to drive economic growth, empower communities, and foster innovation. Bridging the gap between urban and rural areas, as well as remote regions, is crucial to fully harness the transformative power of the internet.
To achieve these goals, collaborative initiatives are essential. The government, as a key stakeholder, plays a vital role in implementing policies and regulations that encourage infrastructure development and investment in underserved areas. Internet service providers have a responsibility to extend their reach and improve connectivity in remote regions. Additionally, community engagement and digital literacy programs are vital to maximize the benefits of internet access.
The call for collaboration emphasizes the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in realizing a digitally inclusive Indonesia. By working together, we can accelerate the expansion and enhance the quality of internet access throughout the country, enabling individuals, businesses, and institutions to fully participate in the digital era.
APJII remains committed to its mission of advancing the internet ecosystem in Indonesia and will continue to advocate for policies and initiatives that promote equal and reliable internet access. With concerted efforts, Indonesia can truly become a leading player in the digital economy, driving innovation, economic growth, and social progress. ***. Hans
